Penrith’s been growing since the railway came through in 1863, and it’s carried on growing pretty much non-stop since, especially through the postwar decades and the building boom of the 1970s. These days it’s one of the bigger hubs in western Sydney, with well over 200,000 people in the city and new development still filling in around the older streets. That gives it a genuine mix of established houses and brand new builds, and I see both regularly.
The older homes, especially anything from before the 1980s, are the ones where I’d check the switchboard first, ceramic fuses and missing safety switches are common at that age.
The newer builds going in now are a different conversation, right-sized air con and power for smaller modern blocks, and more people asking about EV charging as the area fills in.
Penrith sits well inland in western Sydney, away from any coastal relief, so it copes with some of the hottest days in the whole metro area.
