Leonay started life as Leo Buring’s riverside vineyard in the 1920s before the first houses went in from 1965, and the suburb still carries some of that character today, hilly, riverside, and home to its own golf course. Most of the housing here is established rather than new, which shapes most of the work I do in Leonay.
With the earliest homes now around 60 years old, switchboards with ceramic fuses and no safety switches are common, and it’s usually one of the first things worth checking.
Being a leafy, established suburb, it’s also one where a lot of the work is renovation-driven, updating power, lighting and air con as owners upgrade rather than move on from these older riverside homes.
Leonay still sits well inland of the coast, so it gets the same hard western Sydney heat as the rest of Penrith despite the river and the hills. Being based right next door in Emu Plains, Leonay is one of the quickest suburbs for me to reach for an urgent job. I can help with the switchboard, the renovation, or making sure the air con is sized right for the room.
